Rev. Dr. Addis & First Lady Gwendolyn Moore.
Senior Pastor
Rev. Dr. Addis Moore is in his 31st year as the Senior Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Kalamazoo, MI, where he leads a thriving congregation with a mission of "Empowering People to Transform Themselves and the Community." He oversees a dedicated staff of 26 full- and part-time employees, as well as S.E.E.D.S. Preschool, which serves 47 three- and four-year-olds with a staff of 14.
A passionate and effective administrator, preacher, and teacher, Dr. Moore intentionally develops others to reach their greatest potential. He firmly believes that Christian Education undergirds everything in the church and that the local church remains the essential foundation for stability and advancement in any community.
His leadership extends beyond the walls of Mt. Zion, as he currently serves as the President of Kalamazoo's Northside Ministerial Alliance, where he is "Leading Change in the Community Through the Unified Church." Additionally, Dr. Moore has been appointed Dean of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., Congress of Christian Education, equipping churches nationwide with the tools and training necessary to make disciples and transform communities.
Dr. Moore and the Mt. Zion congregation are deeply engaged in community transformation initiatives, including:
• Cradle Kalamazoo, working to close the Black-White infant mortality disparity.
• S.E.E.D.S. Preschool, providing early education for underserved children of color.
• GVI (Group Violence Intervention), a task force aimed at reducing gun violence.
• City Lead Kalamazoo, a monthly leadership forum uniting community leaders.
• Affordable Senior Housing, ensuring quality living spaces for seniors.
His favorite scripture is Isaiah 55:11— "So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it."
His favorite quote is from Joshua Medcalf: "Perspective is the one thing that can change results without changing the facts."
Dr. Moore has been married for 45 years to his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Moore, who is the owner and operator of Amazing Grace Assisted Living, LLC, and Amazing Grace Life Saving Ministries, a 501(c)(3) organization. They are the proud parents of three children and their spouses—Veeta (William), Michael (Candace), and Christopher (Danielle)—and are blessed with six wonderful grandchildren: Tyler, Emery, Madison, Michael II, Christopher II, and Cameron.
